So I asked the learners what digital trend they want to see this year, separate from the discussion around AI, and it was super fun. They said two things. They said anything that makes learning more accessible, in terms of being able to learn in their own time, at their own pace, and in their own space. And guess what, not all providers have that figured out yet by any stretch.
And the second thing they said was anything that shows the trainer’s face. They’re worried that they’re seeing us hiding behind digital tools.
And so learners want us using digital tools to get out in front, to be visible to them throughout the entire learning journey.
Key Points
- Learner-driven poll: The session asked learners — outside of the AI conversation — which emerging digital trend they most wanted to impact the VET sector by 2024. The poll options included Blockchain, Virtual/Augmented Reality, 5G Connectivity, and Internet of Things (IoT).
- Top learner desire #1 — Accessibility: Learners want technology that makes learning more accessible, specifically the ability to learn in their own time, at their own pace, and in their own space (i.e. flexible, self-directed learning).
- Top learner desire #2 — Trainer visibility: Learners want to see their trainers' faces on screen. They feel that trainers are "hiding behind" digital tools rather than using those tools to make themselves more present.
