This training is the third part of the series (see course 1 and course 2) and focuses on how to communicate well and provide culturally competent services when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability. It highlights practical ways to build respectful relationships and deliver support that meets individual needs while recognising the importance of family and community. The course will give disability support workers the skills to provide individualised and culturally safe support that helps participants reach their personal outcomes.
By the end of this training, workers will be able to interact more effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability, their families and communities. They will know how to communicate in culturally appropriate ways and provide services that respect culture, strengthen relationships and support the goals of participants, their families and their communities.
