What You’ll Learn

  • Identify reversible causes of dementia-like symptoms
  • Distinguish between disease effects and individual traits
  • Empower clients to understand cognitive impacts of lifestyle choices
  • Minimise risks associated with nutritional deficiencies and infections

Course Overview

This training will help you understand how dementia progresses and the changes that may occur for each individual over time. It also looks at health conditions or other causes that can create dementia-like symptoms but may be reversible. By learning about these changes, you will be able to see the difference between the effects of the disease and the person themselves, ensuring support is always delivered with dignity and respect.

By the end of this training, you will understand how dementia develops and how it affects people differently. You will be able to support clients to take part in assessment and individual planning by helping them understand how lifestyle, medications and other health conditions can affect memory and thinking. You will also be able to provide safe and appropriate support that reduces risks related to nutrition, infections and medications. This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to provide high-quality support for people living with dementia, in line with the Aged Care Quality Standards.
