This is the first module in a three-part series on epilepsy. It introduces what epilepsy is (and what it is not), how it is diagnosed, the basics of seizures, and the correct terminology to use when providing support. The focus is on giving support workers a clear and practical understanding of epilepsy and seizures so they can provide safe, respectful, and inclusive support.
By completing this module, participants will build confidence in supporting people living with epilepsy to stay involved in daily activities and work towards their goals. They will also be able to provide accurate information to families, friends, and carers, and respond positively to community attitudes. This knowledge helps support workers deliver person-centred support while meeting the National Standards for Disability Services.
