Course Overview

From the moment of conception, every child begins an incredible journey of growth and discovery. This course takes you inside that journey exploring how children learn, grow, think, and develop across the crucial early years (0–6).

You’ll uncover the fascinating science behind development, from brain research and genetics to the powerful influence of relationships and environments. Together, we’ll examine how physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and communication skills weave together to create the whole child  and what this means for your practice as an early childhood professional.

Through real-world examples, reflection, and discussion, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how children’s experiences shape who they become, and how educators can create nurturing, inclusive environments that truly support every child’s potential.

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Understand the key areas of child development and how they interconnect.
  • Explore major theories that explain how children learn and grow.
  • Identify developmental milestones and what they tell us about children’s progress.
  • Recognise the influence of both nature and nurture on development.
  • Reflect on gender stereotypes, inclusivity, and bias in early learning settings.
  • Apply insights from brain research to support healthy, holistic growth.
  • Create environments that promote belonging, wellbeing, and curiosity.

Perfect for:

Educators, teachers, carers, and job-seekers in children’s services who want to deepen their understanding of early learning and development — and transform theory into meaningful everyday practice.
