  • How to keep analysis ethical – Record and interpret information accurately, without assumptions or added details.

Course Overview

This course equips educators with the skills and knowledge to confidently analyse and interpret observations and information gathered from both primary and secondary sources. By engaging with real-life examples and developmental theories, participants will learn how to reflect meaningfully on children’s learning and development while maintaining accuracy, objectivity, and respect for each child’s unique identity.

Educators will explore:

  • The difference between primary and secondary sources of information.
  • How to reflect on, analyse, and interpret observations without adding assumptions.
  • Linking observations to developmental milestones, dispositions for learning, and EYLF outcomes.
  • Incorporating child development theories into analysis
  • Ethical considerations, including family permissions, reliability of information, and unbiased interpretation.
  • Collaborative reflection practices to deepen analysis and strengthen programming decisions.

Through practical case studies and guided reflection, this course will build educators’ confidence in transforming observations into meaningful insights that inform curriculum planning, strengthen family partnerships, and support children’s holistic learning and wellbeing.
