This course will introduce you to the underlying principle of empowering people with a disability to know and explore their strengths. You will learn about the history of the disability sector in Australia and its shift to a rights-based, empowerment focus.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is introduced as a framework for supporting people to have greater control over their lives. The role of disability workers is examined, highlighting the importance of empowering rather than over-supporting. The module also encourages reflection on your own knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to ensure person-centred and empowering practice.
