Meet Cloud Assess’s Super Talented Software Engineer, Victor

As you effortlessly navigate through the new Learner Interface or assign work and see it in the Calendar, you might be surprised to know how long it takes to get these features working! Let alone, who it is working away to create these timesaving and process improving features. Introducing Victor, our uber talented Software Engineer. Victor is an integral part to the Cloud Assess team and only recently joined us all the way from Brazil. Find out what inspired him to get into tech and what his experience with the VET sector has been like:

1. Tell us about your role at Cloud Assess:

I am one of the software engineers in the Cloud Assess IT team. My role involves contributing to the development of new functions and features to the platform, bug management and implementing performance improvements. Furthermore I give advice and guidance on the development strategy, research new technologies within the Cloud Assess framework and analyse the benefits of introducing such new technologies.

2. What inspires you about the Vocational Education and Training sector?

I have been working as a software engineer for the past 8 years. This made me realise that technology is continuously changing. Because of that constant change I needed to ensure that my knowledge stays up to date with the new technologies.

Vocational Education and Training offers a great way to stay up to date with the requirements of the ever-changing IT market. I took part in a VET course to up-skill my current knowledge and apply new standards into my job. I really love how practical oriented the VET sector is as this made it even easier to transfer the learned materials into real-life.

I believe that this industry builds an essential foundation for Australia’s workforce and will also, in future be important for the development of my career.

3. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I really love music, it would be amazing to learn how to play a seven-string acoustic guitar. I already have a basic knowledge of how to play a regular guitar but this is very different from playing a seven-string version. It will take some time and a lot of dedication before I can play it but I’m keen to continue.

4. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I just moved to Australia. It was always my dream to live here as it has the best lifestyle in the world. Every day I explore and learn new things about the culture and beautiful nature. Australia is such a big country and there is still so much to see, I can’t wait! Otherwise Hawaii is another place that I would also like to visit.

5. What’s your favourite activity?

I love to play sports! Whenever there is some free time, you can find me practising Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Surfing. These are my favourite two sports but in general I really enjoy being in the great outdoors.

6. What is your personal philosophy?

Enjoy life and try to learn how you can make this world a better place.

7. Tell us something that might surprise us about you:

I studied hard for 1 year to become a psychologist but then decided to switch to IT. My cousin has a big IT company in Brazil. He gave me a book about technology when I was young, which in the end influenced my final decision on what professional pathway I would go.

8. What is online assessment to you?

It is the chance to be flexible in your studies. There is no need anymore for paper files that can get lost easily. Online Assessment gives the student the chance to study remotely and helps the assessor to process assessment outcomes faster.

9. What’s your favourite feature in Cloud Assess?

Workflows is one of my favourite features. It is fascinating how it enables customers to automate processes and drive their business growth. Tedious tasks become simple as everything happens by itself, which allows businesses to really focus on their goals.

The Mapping function is also one of my favourite features as it provides a quick way of checking the compliance of units with ASQA’s requirements. This is a fundamental tool for an RTO and Cloud Assess makes it so simple and intuitive, just great!

10. What’s the best thing about working for Cloud Assess?

The good environment! The team here is just always friendly and help whenever I have a problem. Everyone here is very dedicated and proactive, which makes the teamwork even better.
