Study Gold Coast: Flying the Flag for Real Skills for Real Careers

Last week Study Gold Coast held one of the biggest careers festivals in Australia. There were 60+ exhibitors, students from schools by the busload, parents and experienced workers all immersing themselves in the positive vibes at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Opened by the Mayor, Tom Tate and Study Gold Coast CEO, Alfred Slogrove, they discussed some key changes since COVID-19 including the increase in those up-skilling for changes in career. As education is the pathway to employment and described as the “pillar of the economy”, Study Gold Coast arranged for the festival to be held over 3 days this year, including a Saturday so that more people had the opportunity to attend including parents or those currently working.

It was stated that according to a report published by Dell Technologies and authored by the Institute For The Future (IFTF) 85% of Jobs that will exist in 2030 haven’t been invented yet. For this reason, continuous opportunities for people to study and develop their skills is crucial.

Another new addition to this year’s format was the inclusion of careers guidance practitioners, with attendees able to book appointments for resume tune-ups and one on one careers advice.

A spokesperson from Study Gold Coast stated, “The 2021 Gold Coast Careers Festival was a huge success, but it wouldn’t have been possible without our unsung heroes, the student volunteers. To all of our student community who gave so willingly of their time with an enthusiastic desire to help others a very big thank you from all of the team at Study Gold Coast.”
